Många lador är från 1700- eller tidigt 1800-tal, men dessa torde ha haft ett tidigare användningsområde och flyttats ut på myren sekundärt. Det äldsta belägget jag hittills (jan 2023) hittat för torvbrytningen på Petmyra är byggandet av ladan PM14, troligen 1887. Svenska mosskulturföreningen bildas 1886, med utgångspunkt i Jönköping, men med verksamhet i södra och mellersta, senare hela, Sverige.3 Hur känd föreningen var i trakten är svårt att veta, men den nämns i alla fall i tidningen Dalarnes Allehanda 18894 och användandet av torvmarkerna låg i tiden. Kanske är det inte en tillfällighet att den äldsta torvladan tillhört riksdagsmannen Eljas Per Olssons son, Eljas Per Persson, "Handback-Patron", som man kanske kan misstänka kan ha haft vidare utblickar och intresse för nymodigheter än många andra? Denna lada är placerad nära vintervägen på myrmark som tillhör Litt M eller Ma trots att gården (litt O & U) nog hade en egen del av Petmyra öster om tjärnen.5 Myran hade vid skogsdelningen ett kvartssekel tidigare betecknats som värdelös, och man kan gissa att det är därför som ägogränserna åtminstone till en början verker ha saknat betydelse för var de olika gårdarna hade sina torvtäkter och lador. Kanske skulle det gå att fastställa åldern på de äldsta torvtäckterna genom att undersöka fler krakrester i det centrala området med de djupaste gravarna väster om vintevägen? Alla sådana dateringar blir dock med nödvändighet tqm, eftersom man aldrig kan veta om det funnits ännu äldre än dem man till äventyrs undersökt. Den yngsta kvarstående ladan är från 1931, men är ingen timmerkonstruktion. Flera andra konstruktioner av brädor, som torde ha byggts främst under 1900-talet är helt försvunna.
The cross jointed timber barns are in most cases old hay barns moved out at the bog. I have dated the timber of all of them (youngest annual ring) PM02: 1764, PM03: 1799, PM04: 1759, PM05: around 1805, PM06: 1731. Tree are probably build as peat barns already from the beginning (PM13, PM14, PM16). They are built of fast grown spruce wood, and therefore hard to date. After new efforts in 2023 however, I was able to date two of them to 1887 and 1889 respectively, which may mark the start of the peat-era here. The last barn, PM17, was build with boards on a construction of pine logs taken from the bog, dated to the summer 1931.
Before the peat could be stored in a barn, it had to dry on a drying-hurdle during the summer. Most of those hurdles are totally rotten down, but the parts below peat surface are indeed very well preserved. Some of them have been dated. The oldest one was made 1902, but most of them are from 1920-30. (There may also very well be older ones yet not found).
The pines growing on the peat does have an unusual annual ring pattern, which makes it difficult to date them towards the standard Pine chronology of the area (swed305 of the ITRDB). Therefore there is a special collection available for the Petmyra bog (PISY).
Update 2023 January: With more cores taken from the barns PM14 and PM16 they can, despite their few rings, be dated to 1887 and 1889, wich is in a period of big efforts to utilize the peat as a resource for agriculture. The oldest belonged to a farm which by other means may be expected to probably be an introducer of agricultural innovations of the time.
